Synopsis
Microsoft
Windows is prone to a stack-based overflow vulnerability that resides
in the GDI graphics library and can be triggered by a malformed EMF
image file.
Stack-based
buffer overflow in GDI in Microsoft Windows 2000 SP4, XP SP2, Server
2003 SP1 and SP2, Vista, and Server 2008 allows remote attackers to
execute arbitrary code via an EMF image file with crafted filename
parameters.
The vulnerability is caused by a heap overflow error in the graphics
device interface (GDI) when processing a malformed header in a
specially crafted Windows Metafile (WMF) or Enhanced Metafile (EMF)
image file, which could be exploited by attackers to execute arbitrary
code by tricking a user into visiting a specially crafted web page
.
“iPolicy is one of the most visionary firewall vendors in the firewall Magic Quadrant. Its architecture of a central session processing engine and multiple content blades that are able to block based on signatures, rules and so on is the closest to the network security ideal.”
