STATE OF UTAH DEPARTMENT INCREASES SECURITY AND OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY WITH IPOLICY NETWORKS
Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control Benefits from World-Class Integrated Network Security
Solution to Reduce Time and Resources Spent Protecting Confidential Data
FREMONT, Calif., September 25,
2006 –iPolicy Networks, provider of next-generation network security solutions, today announced
that the State of Utah’s Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (UDABC) has improved
its network security and IT efficiency across the organization using iPolicy’s integrated
network security appliance with intrusion detection and prevention and deep packet inspection
stateful firewall. The iPolicy solution, with profile-based centralized management, enables UDABC
to reduce time spent locating network attacks, and to better arm its network against constantly
emerging threats to ensure the confidentiality of customer information, operational data and
employee records.
UDABC is responsible for all licensing, distribution and sales within the state, and operates
104 point of sale terminals at 37 retail stores. For its retail operations, UDABC must adhere
to the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard, which evolved in part from VISA’s
Cardholder Information Security Program (CISP). To maintain the integrity of private data, and
to comply with industry standards, security is of the utmost importance to UDABC’s security
administrators.
Prior to implementing iPolicy’s solution, UDABC security was enforced mainly through
the State’s firewall, which protects all State agency networks. UDABC, however, wanted
additional safeguards to ensure the high level of threat prevention and information privacy protection
required by UDABC. Additionally, the firewall’s reporting functions required administrators
to search extensive strings and backlogs to identify attacks across multiple locations. The department
also wanted to implement a real-time threat prevention solution that was extensible as a pre-patch
solution for vulnerability protection.
Previously, we had to spend four to five hours a week sifting through data to locate attacks
before we could even start to respond to them, “said Kevin Perry, technical support specialist
supervisor for UDABC. “With iPolicy, we can now view and analyze graphical, intuitive reports
in a matter of minutes to easily locate and respond to anomalies. iPolicy stands apart with its
industry-leading scalability and virtualization capabilities, which provide us with the peace
of mind that our security needs are being met and managed across the network. Additionally, iPolicy
enables us to easily comply with the VISA mandate and smoothly transition through Microsoft patch
updates.”
UDABC conducted a comprehensive review and test of three competing products, ultimately selecting
iPolicy to improve its network and information security. While the alternatives required lengthy
installations, UDBAC implemented iPolicy in just four hours. Since the installation of the iPolicy
appliance, the results have been dramatic in both threat prevention and management operational
efficiency areas. iPolicy enables the UDABC to view the details of attacks in real-time through
simple, accurate reporting, and to respond immediately to these threats. Additionally, iPolicy
meets CISP/PCI Data Security Standard requirements and provides a shield of protection during
regular Microsoft security patch implementations, which previously had the potential to leave
parts of the system vulnerable for periods of 12 hours or more.
“Our goal is to provide our customers with an integrated security solution that saves
them time and resources while helping them reach towards their goal of a zero-threat network, “ said
Arun Chandra, president and CEO of iPolicy Networks. “In addition, iPolicy’s management
capabilities enable the Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control to scale across its entire
network, which like many of our customers, is distributed across multiple locations. Because
iPolicy‘s solution can scale up to hundreds of locations, we provide unmatched scalability
and performance for even the largest customer.”
