iPolicy Networks and John Brown University
to Present at EDUCAUSE Security
Professionals Conference
Leading Security Solutions Provider Teams
with Top University in Arkansas to Outline
Solutions for Defending Campus Networks Against
Blended Threats
Fremont, Calif., April 10, 2006—iPolicy
Networks, provider of integrated network
security solutions, today announced that it
will participate with customer John Brown University
to present at the 2006 EDUCAUSE Security Professionals
Conference. EDUCAUSE brings together collegiate
IT security practitioners to advance higher
education through information technology. Together,
John Brown University and iPolicy will outline
how next-generation technology can defend campus
networks against blended threats.

iPolicy and John Brown University will discuss
how institutions of higher learning of all
sizes can benefit from integrated network solutions
for increased security. Although campus networks
today deploy multiple separate security technologies,
these piecemeal solutions are inadequate when
faced with next-generation blended threats
that proliferate and evolve through multiple
mechanisms and can pass through traditional
firewalls. The result: universities must cope
with disruption, lost productivity, system
cleanup and restoration costs, and loss of
sensitive digital assets. In this presentation,
iPolicy and John Brown University will explore
how key security technologies such as stateful
firewall, intrusion detection and prevention,
and URL filtering can be consolidated into
more effective security architecture.
In September 2005, John Brown University
deployed the iPolicy 3300 series network
security appliance to enforce consistent security
policies from a single management console
and provide optimal protection for its 1,900
students and its 350 faculty and staff across
the campus. John Brown University selected
iPolicy because of its unique Single Pass
Architecture which provides higher performance
than alternative solutions in which security
functions execute as separate sequential processes.
Additionally, iPolicy offers a platform that
can scale over time to defend against new
types of security threats.
“We looked at numerous different solutions
for implementing a multi-function security
protection,” said Ray West, director
of network services, John Brown University. “iPolicy’s
intrusion prevention firewall product offered
the highest performance for our infrastructure
needs. We look forward to discussing our successful
iPolicy implementation with the EDUCAUSE audience.”
iPolicy’s security appliances combine
stateful firewall, intrusion prevention and
URL filtering functionality, all within a single
appliance, providing a single point of control
for swift response to security threats. Its
unique Single Pass Architecture performs a
layer two-to-seven deep inspection of each
packet only once, enabling organizations to
enforce a wide variety of real-time security
processes without impacting performance. With
iPolicy’s Intrusion Prevention Firewall
2000, 3000, 4000 and 6000 series, network security
managers can maintain the performance of their
high-speed networks from 100 megabits to 4
gigabits per second, while mitigating DoS/DDoS
attacks, blocking worms and Trojans, stopping
blended threats and preventing undesirable
content from entering the network, attacks
that readily penetrate conventional firewalls.
